CINCINNATI, Ohio– The Anderson Raptors beat the Turpin Spartans by a score of 58-16 on Friday night. Turpin held a 9-7 lead halfway through the second quarter and only trailed 23-16 at halftime before Anderson went on a scoring spree. Owen Scalf finished with 367 total yards (313 passing, 54 rushing) and six touchdowns (5 passing, 1 rushing). Jordan Davis had 151 yards (111 receiving, 41 rushing) and two touchdowns (one receiving, one rushing). Wide receiver Tysin Weaver had 87 yards and three touchdowns, while Cooper Kathman added 54 yards and a touchdown. Brady Kuhn led the Anderson defense with 17 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Rylen Dean, Antwoine Higgins, and James Schnurstein all had a sack each for the Raptors.
Anderson got on the board first with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Owen Scalf to Cooper Kathman. Turpin responded with a 4-yard touchdown run from Holden Gerth, but the extra point would be no good. The Raptors held a 7-6 lead after one quarter.
Turpin would take the lead on a 30-yard field goal from Addi Braun less than two minutes into the second quarter. The Raptors regained the lead a few minutes later when Jordan Davis scored on a 16-yard run and Owen Scalf found Cooper Kathman on the two point conversion. Anderson would quickly score again on their next possession when Tysin Weaver caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Scalf. Scalf would catch a pass on the two-point conversion to give the Raptors a 23-9 lead. Turpin linebacker Brody Nickerson intercepted a pass and set the Spartans up with great field position a few minutes later. Turpin capitalized with a nine-yard touchdown run from quarterback Luke Mileham with 33 seconds left to go in the half. Anderson held a 23-16 advantage heading into the locker room.
Anderson would go on a scoring clinic in the second half, while Turpin would be held scoreless. Tysin Weaver caught a 36-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter. Jordan Davis added to the lead with a 20-yard touchdown reception. Scalf found Weaver again on a 15-yard touchdown to give the Raptors a commanding 44-16 lead after three quarters.
Owen Scalf scored on a one-yard run near the halfway point of the fourth quarter. Ke’Maury Tye had a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown with under a minute left to go in the game to cap the 58-16 win for the Raptors.
Anderson finished with 406 yards of total offense, 19 first downs, and converted on 5 of their 9 third down attempts. Turpin had 207 yards of total offense, 13 first downs, and converted on 5 of their 16 third down opportunities. The Raptors were 3-for-4 on fourth down, while Turpin was 2-for-5 on fourth down.
Anderson improves to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the ECC. They will welcome Walnut Hills next Friday night at 7 p.m. Turpin falls to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play. They will travel to play Lebanon next Friday night at 7 p.m.
